FOMPS Charity Status
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends of Monkton Park School,
Due to the fundraising success of FOMPS last year FOMPS is obliged by law to register as a charity; all organisations raising over £5,000 must have a constitution in place, be registered with the charity commission and be governed by a board of trustees, who have independent control over, and legal responsibility for the charity’s management and administration. Registering as a charity will also open up a number of benefits to FOMPS including charitable grants and VAT-exemption.
A sub-committee of FOMPS members have been involved in drafting a constitution for FOMPS, which will need to be agreed by members. You can read the full constitution on our school webpage here: https://www.monktonpark.wilts.sch.uk/page/?title=FOMPS&pid=23. A Special General Meeting (SGM) will be held on Friday 8th November at 3pm in the school in order to agree the constitution and to appoint trustees, through majority vote. Members unable to attend the SGM may vote via the school office before 12:00 on Friday 8th November. Nominations will be published and voting forms made available through Parentpay and the school office on Wednesday 6th November.
Only members may vote; see below for information on being and becoming a member.
Membership of the charity is open to anyone who is interested in furthering its purposes, including all parents and/or guardians of pupils at the school, members of the local community and all staff of the school. There is no selection criteria for membership; applications should be made by request via FOMPSPTA@gmail.com to be included as a member and to be added to the FOMPS distribution list.
A paper explaining the role of the trustee is attached, as is a summary of the draft constitution. FOMPS welcomes nominations from across the school community (including school employees and local businesses) and from both new and existing members with connections to Reception, KS1 and KS2. To nominate yourself please submit your application to the school office in person or by email by 4pm, Tuesday 5th November.
Application details should include:
- Your name
- Your links with Monkton Park School including the year group(s) of children at the school if relevant
- A brief description to support your application, including either your connection with the school or FOMPS, or why you would make a good trustee (no more than 50 words)
Please note that to be eligible to be a trustee you must not:
- be bankrupt or have an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA)
- have an unspent conviction for certain offences (including any that involve dishonesty or deception)
- be on the sex offenders’ register
Please don’t hesitate to contact FOMPS for further information
